Definition of "Light therapy"

Light therapy is exposure to daylight or specific wavelengths of light (polychromated polarised light, lasers, LED, fluorescent lamps, dichroic lamps, or very bright full-spectrum light). The light is administered for a prescribed amount of time, or even specific times of day.

Uses
  • Skin conditions, including:
    • Psoriasis
    • Acne vulgaris
    • Eczema
    • neonatal jaundice
  • When striking the retina of the eyes:
    • Cicardian rhyhm disorders such as delayed sleep phase disorder
    • Seasonal affective disorder, and even non-seasonal psychiatric disorders
