Overnutrition (aka hyperalimentation) is a form of malnutrition, in which the intake of nutrients is oversupplied. The amount of nutrients exceeds the amount required for normal growth, deveelopment, and metabolism.

Classification
  • Obesity, which usually occurs by overeating. It is greater food consumption than is appropriate, as well as other feeding procedures e.g. parental nutrition
  • Oversupplying a specific nutrient, e.g. dietary minerals or vitamin poisoning. It is due to an excessive intake or nutritional imbalance caused by fad diets. It can include:
    • Iron poisoning
    • Low sodium diet (excess sodium)
