Trismus is limited mouth opening (reduced opening of the jaws), especially caused by spasm of the muscles of mastication.

• Interferes w/ eating, speech, oral hygiene, and can alter facial appearance
• May be distressing and painful

• Aspiration
• Limit or prevent medical examination or Tx requiring access to the oral cavity

• Temporary trismus is much more common than permanent trismus
