Laryngitis is inflammation of the larynx/voice box.

  • Hoarse voice
  • Temporary complete dysphonia (i.e. loss of the voice)
Classification
  • Acute, is <3 weeks
  • Chronic, is >3 weeks
Pathophysiology
  • Irritation to the vocal folds/cords
Epidemiology
  • Chronic occurs mostly in middle age, and is much more common in men than women
