What is angiotensin?
Angiotensin is a component of the RAAS system, which is a system that tends to raise blood pressure. Specifically, it promotes the secretion of aldosterone.

  • Olmesartan [medoxomil], e.g. Sevikar which is olmesartan+ the CCB amlodipine
  • Irbesartan (Avapro)
  • Valsartan (Diovan)
  • Telmisartan (Micardis)
  • Losartan

  • Eprosartan

  • Diabetic nephropathy (kdiney damage due to diabetes)
  • Congestive heart failure
MOA
  • Block the activation of angiotensin 2 receptors. Angiotensin 2 is involved with:
    • Vasoconstriction, thus causing vasodilation
    • Secretion of ADH, thus reduces this
    • Produces and secretes aldosterone, thus reduces this
  • The combined effect reduces BP
